AMD Phenom II X4 socket AM3 finally
AMD have released their last line of multi-core CPUs. these new 45 nm are more or less the same their AM2+ equivalents . the only difference is the new DDR3 support
Until now. no motherboard is able to run the AM3 with DDR3 in triple channel, which is one of the main disadvantages of this CPU. Also the X3 model has been proved to have the higher performance per cost according to the guru of 3d
So for now AMD is still out of league with intel and their core i7.
I have been waiting for the AM3 phenom II for a while, but I decided to skip on it for the following reasons:
-no triple channel DDR3 yet
- far from any competition with core i7
- AM3 boards only support AM3 processors and DDR3 (Due to AMD CPU limitation, DDR2 1066 is supported by AM2+ / AM3 CPU for one DIMM per channel only)
you can get the AMD Phenom II X4 810 2.6GHz Socket AM3 95W for 169$ and a respected ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard for 199$. So the total is 368$
You can also get the Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W for 290$ and an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard for 290$. So the total is 580$
So you will have to spend an extra 212$ to get the i7 system up and running. if you have that extra money go for it. If not, many pros have given thumbs up for the new AMD maybe it is all you need.
Windows Vista Explorer keyboard hotkeys
A few new keyboard tricks has been implemented in windows Vista, and some more were modified compared to their XP equivalents. for example:
open a folder containing pictures, videos, or just any files. hold Ctrl and roll the mouse wheel. This will change the thumbnails size.
hold Alt while going forward or backward from any folder. This will hide the file-names from appearing. this is perfect for folders containing Photos.
If you have vista Aero. try winkey-tab. this will start switch between active windows in 3D style.
You can always try other keyboard shortcuts from windows XP because most of them still work.
One more thing if you use the “Windows Task Manager” a lot, you can directly activate it by pressing Ctrl-Shift-Esc without having to jump through the logon window.
