Are you unable to connect to your Opensky satellite internet account on windows 7? the same thing happened to me, even though I was using the “Windows 7″ version of the application.

Anyway, I found a way around to make it work.

1. insure that your satellite card is running, set on the right transponder, and the right PIDs are on.

2. Download and install the OPENSKY Connection Manager, enter all settings correctly and choose direct access. this is supposed to be it, but you will be unable to connect yet.

3. click the network icon near the clock on the task-bar of windows 7, then right click, properties, the OPENSKY direct access.

4. on the security tab select “Layer 2 tunneling protocol”

5.save everything, then try to connect, it should work!!

If you get connected but for some reason unable to browse, then the problem can be one of the following:

1.your satellite card tuner is off, not on the right transponder, not on the right pids, or does not have a signal at all.

2. For some Magic reason, sometimes on windows 7, your cards MAC address will read as zeros, if that is your case, you must manually set your subscription MAC address through the device manager, ask me if you need help doing that .

Hope this works for you. but always remember, satellite internet IS NOT SAFE, read about that here

I personally suffer from a very bad memory, sometimes I wonder if I still have one. For that I rely too much on the Opera wand to save my passwords. the bad thing is that sometimes, and by mistake you overwrite a good password that was stored. and you can’t remember what it was.

Unfortunately, opera does not backup your passwords, and to recover this precious password you will have only one hope, and you will have to running windows Vista or 7..

1. Close Opera

2. Navigate to E:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera and find the file wand.dat.

3. right click it, select properties and select, “restore previous versions”

4. if you are lucky, there should be a previous version of the file dating before the date where you overwritten the password.

5. Overwrite the current file with the recovered one.

Open Opera, you should have your password back!

I think you also do this to recover deleted history, deleted bookmarks, etc. you will just have to recover the right file

Here is how to do it

1. download the file here

2. Copy it to c:\windows\syswow64

3. type the following “Run” command : “regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\MSWINSCK.OCX” and yes, you must type the full path to the file, not just the name.

4. That’s it it should work now.

If you are still using Window 7 RC with a beta key, you will notice that windows 7 will be auto restarted every two hours starting today March the 2nd 2010.

This is an effort from Microsoft to force the people that are still suing the pre-release version to get the full version on windows 7, or downgrade to a previous OS.

So if you have noticed that your windows server began restarting (apparently randomly) after Marsh the first, don’t worry, it is not a hardware issue, it is just a wake up call for you to move on before the beta key you’re using completely expires on June 2010

If you are unsure if you have an RC version on windows 7, just press the start button and type “winver” then hit enter, if you see “Evaluation copy: expires on: 03/02/2010 1:59AM” then you have an RC version

This is a sad day for many many kids around the world.

During the last decade, I got the chance to try many driver repairing tools, some of them were free, some were not. I never liked any of them though, some couldn’t correctly detect the hardware that is unrecognized by windows, some provided dead driver download links, and some were loaded with spywares are scarewares.

When I was working on a friends Acer laptop, trying to find almost all of it’s drivers that Windows curiously was unable to recognize any of them. Even the manufacturer was not quite sure what the hell they put in this model.

That is when I tried a software called Device doctor, I kinda liked it for the following reasons.

1. Free

2. Was able to detect all the needed drivers.

3. Was able to provide driver updates for the installed drivers.

4. All drivers were hosted at the device doctor website.

5. No registration required !

6. There is even a portable version of the software, to be used without installing from a flash drive, if you were geeky enough for that.

I still haven’t got the chance to really check it’s capabilities, but so far, it’s looking good.

You can download Device Doctor here

Also you can get the Portable Device Doctor here

Hi.

Today We’ll be discussing the hidden settings (and shortcuts) in windows 7.

Windows 7 has some developer oriented settings and control panels, for example shortcuts to directly access GPS setting (yes there are GPS settings), biometry settings, or just printer settings.

To unlock these modes all you need to do is to create a folder with any name (angrybyte of instance) then a single dot “.” and then a special code for the required panel

an example would be to create a folder named:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

opening this folder will open the master control panel ( or the godmode as the guy that originally discovered it calls it).

There are also some other modes and hidden settings, I have came up with a method to create them all in one go. You can read more about it in the post : Unlocking all hidden settings & godemodes in windows 7 in the forums

have fun, and remember, it will break down eventually.

Hi everyone. Today we will learn how to record any music , radio, game sound, just anything that your computer can play and save it. This was easy back in days on windows XP. But now it has become a little tricky because the stereo mixing device is now disabled by default in windows 7 and Vista.

To enable it just right click the speaker icon near the clock, then click “recording device”. Then right click any blank space below your devices list and click “Show disabled devices”. Then enable the “Stereo mix” device and set it as the default. Now you can start recording.

This is a first, but I tried to add a video description to this post. please check it out and tell me how you like it. should I have these video descriptions more often?

after I installed windows 7 on my pc, I noticed that 1 of my 5 hard disk partitions was missing. the real cause of this is not yet clear to me, it is probably related to the ability of the windows 7 installation process to assign driver letters to a big number of partitions, but who knows.

Anyway to get back your partitions do not try extreme solutions such as BIOS settings and chipset INF files, just follow the following steps.

1. right click “Computer” and select “manage” . click “disk management” from the list on the left.

2. locate the missing partition, it is usually the partition without a driver letter.

3. right click it and assign a driver letter to it.

That’s it ! everything should work just fine now.

By the way what was you first impression after installing windows 7? I don’t know about you but I was a little disappointed

Broadband is undoubtedly great and once you`ve got a broadband connection in your home you`ll wonder how you managed without it. However, when things go wrong with your broadband connection and you don`t know what to do you could be stuck without access to the internet. Luckily most broadband connectivity issues and problems can be solved in a matter of minutes, it`s just a case of assessing what the issue is and taking the proper steps to rectify it swiftly. This will not only make using your broadband at home a less stressful task, but will also improve your overall computer literacy.

Router Issues
At the heart of most broadband connection problems is the router, which you may well have been supplied with by your broadband provider and never really had to deal with in depth. If you cannot connect to the internet, if your wireless network is not operating correctly or if there are any connection issues whatsoever, check the router itself. On most routers there are a series of LEDs which indicate how many computers are connected via Ethernet, whether the wireless network is enabled, whether there is a broadband service operating on your line and whether you are actually connected to the internet or not using your username and password. If any of these lights is not illuminated or if they are showing a warning red colour as opposed to the usual green, then you should firstly turn off your router at the wall and leave it for a minute or so. Routers, like all electronics, can overheat, crash or lock up and refuse to work properly and since routers spend a lot of time on, it`s useful to give them a rest every now and then. If rebooting the router doesn`t solve the issue, you`ll have to delve into the router menus. Depending on the brand of router you`ll need to connect a PC or laptop via an Ethernet cable to the router, then open up your preferred internet browser and enter the router`s IP address in the address bar. It will usually be something like 192.168.1.1, but check with the router`s handbook for complete confirmation. You may have to enter a username and password, which by default is often admin and then you should be able to access all of the particulars of the router`s settings. You will be able to make sure that your internet access username and password are entered properly, that the wireless network is enabled and that the router can detect a broadband signal.

Speed Issues
If you suspect that your broadband connection is a lot slower than advertised by your provider then there are several avenues of enquiry to pursue. First, make sure that you have microfilters plugged into all of the telephone sockets in your house so that the analogue telephone signal and the digital broadband connection are not interfered with by other devices. Then you should run a broadband speed test online and inform your provider.
