Play Guitar Hero World Tour vocals on PC with any microphone
Normally, Guitar hero: World Tour for PC will not allow you to play the vocals mode unless you have a compatible USB microphone. but thanks to the trick I discovered, you will enjoy playing guitar hero with any headset microphone you have. Just follow the steps carefully.
This method is provided as is with no guarantees that it will work and/or effect your computer in any way.
UPDATE
A visitor “honhon” commented below a much easier approach to enable vocals and here it is
- right click the speaker icon near the clock and click recording devices
- double click your default Mic
- rename it to Logitech USB Mic
- save everything and start the game
to enable playing other modes again you must rename the mic to something else
If this does not work you (or if you have a version of windows other than Vista) you can try the method below
-
UPDATE 2
Another approach to play vocals on guitar hero world tour was discovered by “nok (nokomment)”. this method uses registry editing and it is for advanced users only:
open the registry editor and select “Find”
write the name of your original default recording device it “realtek high definition audio” in my case. but you can find the right name for your system in the “record” tab under “sound” in your control panel
rename all registry KEYS AND VALUES to exactly (case sensitive) Logitech USB Mic
check the recording tab again you should find that the default recording device is now renamed to Logitech USB Mic
Start the game and enjoy!
If this does not work for you can try the method below
1. Download a small software called VOXmorph junior, it is free! , just install it somewhere. then start it and close it.
2. Open the installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Screaming Bee\MorphVOX Junior) of VOXmorph junior and find the .inf file with x64 in the name if you have a 64bit system or with x86 if you have a 32bit system, open the file.
3. in the first set of lines, look for ”DriverVer =” increase the date and the version number.
4. scroll down to the end of the file and find the lines
SBEE=
MfgName=
SBEE_Audio.DeviceDesc=
Change these lines to
SBEE=”Logitech USB Mic”
MfgName=”Screaming Bee LLC”
SBEE_Audio.DeviceDesc=”Logitech USB Mic”
Also find the line
sbee_audio.SvcDesc=
And modify it to
sbee_audio.SvcDesc=”Logitech USB Mic”
Save the file.
5. Open the Device manager,and find the Screaming bee driver under “Sound , Video and game controllers” right click it and select “Update driver”
6. Click browse my computer for driver softwares and then “Let me pick from a list..” then click have disk. Browse to the VOXmorph folder with the modified inf file and select it.
7. Ignore the “end of the world” warning about the driver not being signed and install it any way. the installation should work fine and your driver’s name should become Logitech USB Mic.
8. Open VOXmorph again and run the setup wizard and set your Logitech USB Mic as the default recording device. disable voice morphing and listening from the program interface and just keep it open.
9. open Guitar hero: World tour now. the vocals mode should be active now.
The down side of this trick is that after doing it you will not be able to play using your regular keyboard, only the vocals mode will be available. To restore things just disable the Logitec driver from the Device manager.
For your information the microphones that are normally supported by guitar hero: world tour for PC are:
- Mad Catz USB microphone
- AK5370
- PDP USB Microphone
- Headset (XBOX 360 For Windows)
- Logitech USB Mic
please report any problems you face, and if you can or can’t make it work. And please check back soon for updates.
Rock on!!

at step 8, I can’t set Logitech USB Mic as the default recording device, because it’s not on the list
could you help somehow?
in the device manager it hasn’t got line-in function, maybe that’s wrong.
btw i use XP SP3.
a bit more editing required in the txt file and success! thanks anyway, that’s a great idea.
Hi.
Can you see Logitech USB Mic in the device manager? BTW there no such a thing as “line-in function” in the device manager, you will find your modified Mic under “Sound Video and game controllers”.
I have tested this method on Windows Vista, we can work together to make it officially work on XP
Good luck
Hi.
Can you please give us some details.
Congratz!!
Sorry for flooding and writing the 4th comment here in an hour : )
There was Logitech USB Mic in the device manager, but in the Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices its name was morphVOXsomething. So I changed evrything that I can in that .inf file to ‘Logitech USB Mic’ and it changed too.
I think the last line is the key:
ScreamingB.Name=”Logitech USB Mic”
Sadly, I have a brand new problem. There’s a pretty big delay between my voice and when the GH:WT recognise it. Imo this is caused by the fact that the voice have to ‘go through’ the morphvox appl and the CPU is overloaded with the game, so that process needs some time.
Thank you for your comment.
I probably have some fix for your problem. Open morphvox’s settings there will be an option to set the delay between the input and output, also there are some other setting that you can try. and make sure you disable “listen” and “morph” from morphvox.
I also have a small delay that is < 1 sec, May be I'll look for another program to replace morph vox ..
You are welcome to comment any time you want, if this is flooding, then I love it.
That would be great if you found another one witch is faster : ) settings didn’t help.
I got a candidate to replace morphVOX, it is called donaut http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/16893/DoNaut.html.
I will test it later
Nice, I’ll check it too. Give details if you find something useful : )
If i use X360 headset so i have to chance to
SBEE=”Headset (XBOX 360 For Windows)”
MfgName=”Screaming Bee LLC”
SBEE_Audio.DeviceDesc=”Headset (XBOX 360 For Windows)”
Hi GHWT
Did that work for you? I avoid using the XBOX 360 because maybe the game has special treatment for it. anyway please update us.
Did you try “Donaut” nok? I couldn’t try it because the version I got do not support 64bit systems. I’ll try to do something about it
No!!! It didn’t work and when i chance to
SBEE=”Logitech USB Mic”
MfgName=”Screaming Bee LLC”
SBEE_Audio.DeviceDesc=”Logitech USB Mic”
It doesn’t work too
Do you have any Idea about this problem ???
Let’s cover the basics before we start working on your problem.
Do you actually update the driver after changing the .inf file? do you see the name that youv’e written in the device manager?
If no, please follow the steps carefully, but if you did everything right, please tell me the following: what is your OS? is morphvox functional? remember that you need to set it as a default recording device and that it needs to be open and working before you start the game (you can test it by enabling listen from morphvox and listening to your own voice)
Now i can play Vocal
Thank you so much
Great!!
Would you care to tell us what was wrong and how did you fix it?
Well I chance my headset to Logitech USB Mic (from the 5th step I update driver for headset so it can chance to Logitech USB Mic ) And done but sadly If i want to play guitar i have to disable headset
And one more thing , at the 5th step , you update the driver of the divide or Screaming bee audio
i got a new problem
after i restart my pc now my X360headset can’t hear my voice anymore And What the hell is wrong
(
just check that morphvox is on and that it is the default recording device
after update driver in step 7 ,my drivers name became logitech usb mic, but in sounds and audio device where recording devices drop down list there’s no “logitech usb mic”, there’r just my realtek audio and screeming bee audio. Plz help me
When you play GHWT (Vocals) Is your point(I don’t know it’s name) jumping ? Cauze mine isn’t stand still .
not install any software. Just –> control panel –> sound –> recording tab –> double click microphone rename to Logitech USB Mic. Done. Work for me on vista
add. no more delay
Great Method there honhon, I had no idea that you can change the mic’s name ( I thought about renaming the entire sound card driver but that would be a pain if you still want to play using the keyboard)
Thanks a bunch
I’m sure they gave “The point” a name in some of the vocals tutorials, If your point is jumpy try lowering your mic’s volume, enabling noise suppression, or reducing the mic boost gain. when you are silent your “point” should stay still.
Donaut didn’t help. Is honhon’s method vista only? : (
Why didn’t donaut work? is it slow or is it the driver?
I’m not sure if you can “rename” your mic in XP, if you have the game on XP please try and tell me
Thanks
lowering mic’s volume and it stay still
Rock on !!!
I can’t modify the driver’s name with donaut.
And there’s no option to rename the mic in XP.
Why can’t you modify the driver? there is an inf file in the installation folder, where did you stop?
A last resort will be to rename the sound driver of your board, to do that download your latest sound driver and rename as much as you can in it to Logitech USB Mic.
but remember that I didn’t try this and that you will have to restore the original driver to enable playing with the keyboard again.
waiting for your updates, Good luck
Hellow people! Ive tried this method on vista (the first one) and i have dealy too… so firstly i thought its normally but after i heard people complaining i understanded its a poblem,how can i fix it?.O and why cant i play other insrumens while the mic is “Emulated” to this game???,bright away my system is E8400 4GB RAM And HD3580.Ill Be Glad If Youll Help Me!!! Thanks!!!
Hi. GHHWT.
I can’t really understand your problem, I understand the first method have worked for you. but I don’t understand who is complaining? is it about the delay? using the first method (aka honhon) the delay is very low. And about why can’t you play other instruments when you enable the mic, I think that the same problem will happen if you use a real guitar hero mic, the programmers of the game brobably thought that if you can buy a mic, you sure can buy a guitar hero guitar.
Hi, guys.
I’ve done the whole process but somehow it wont work. I have the same problem as:
By dave, August 14, 2009 @ 9:23 am
Logitech USB mic is not awailable.
And the point goes to knok: ScreamingB.Name=”Logitech USB Mic”
just added and it works
@Dante
Hi.
what devices are available in your recoding devices list? find the “screaming bee” related name and look it up in the driver’s inf file, change it to “Logitech USB mic”
Change only one line at a time and reinstall the driver until you get it right, and when you do please please tell us which was it to help other guys that will have the same problem.
Thanks
Okat thanks man understood.
Hi
I think I have a brand new problem…
I tried the VOXmorph junior on XP and honhon’s renaming in Windows 7 and it works until the game load the song but before I can play the game stops working and quit.. The game does it both of OS.
I use Xbox360 Headset..
Pls help!
@steewattyoo
Hi
Why dont you use. Logitech USB mic? do you think that Xbox360 Headset is cool?
I suspect that the game have special treatment for xbox 360 headsets and that the Logitech is the closest we have to a regular mic.
maybe you can change the bitrate and channels number of your morphvox mic?? or your real mic?? try messing with that, that can be the reason why the game is crashing.
Please update us if it works for you
I don’t think “Xbox360 Headset is cool”, I just saw it on the supported microphnes list and tried it. When I use my regular mic the game stops working too..
Now I use Windows 7 and simply renamed the default microphe to “Logitech USB Mic” (like honhon said) so I don’t installed morphvox.
I didn’t change the bitrate I leave it “1 channel 16 bit 44100 Hz” do you think this is the cause the game crashes?
Hi. I did all of the steps above (winXP SP3), but now GH freezes on loading screen and sometimes the only way to kill it is reset :/. Even after I uninstalled VOXmorph, deleted it’s drivers ant set the default recording device back to what it was before the changes.
I don’t get it.. why can’t the game see it’s own devices? <_<
I bought complete band set with a crappy mic that I can't use.. great :/.
since you have the same problem in your two systems, then it is mostly a hardware or driver issue, assuming that the game runs normally when you play guitar mode, the only difference is the mic, and that is the source of the problem, my mic runs the game ok at:
2 channels, 16bit 44100hz
may be you shout try that.
also try using Logitech instead of xbox.
Good luck
Hi CrisaliS
I dont get it, I understand that you have the guitar hero kit including the mic, so why are you using this method? if you have just bought the kit after you tried this method but the game keeps crashing on you then it is weird.
Anyway open the device manager and insure that under “sound video and game controllers” there is no virtual hardware, as a last resort, maybe you should try reinstalling the game, normally after you uninstall morphvox the game should return to normal.
it works dude…
im using vista ultimate x64, and it’s all fine…
any drum kit for pc?
.-= dead_executive05´s last blog ..Start Shredding With Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock! =-.
Hey dead_executive05.
Do you have any Ideas for this drum kit? with what you will be replacing the drums? we will try to pull something off because in the end, a drum kit is just a simple MIDI device
This a round about and resource consuming method. The easiest way is to just use a no-DVD cracked GHWT.EXE
Then hex-edit it and search for Logitech USB Mic. Chance it to the name of your mic (as shown in Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices)
Torch: I tried that and the application didn’t start after it. I got a ‘classic’ windows error (on XP).
@Torch: I don’t think I’ts anywhere near legal to use cracks or cracking the game your self. please everyone DO NOT USE THIS METHOD, I did think about it anyway but it is not the best way to do it
@nok: It is not legal nor easy to modify an exe, an exe has an internal structure that requires a specific length for each part of the program carelessly modifying the file will surly result in an error
I think it isn’t legal to play the vocal part without the required mics, so it doesn’t really matter what to do for it. I agree the others that you mentioned.
I’ll install Vista or win7 RC : )
I got a method that works for me on XP. I ran regedit.exe and searched for the name of my audio device and modified lots of the entries to Logitech USB Mic. Its name changed in control panel too. There’s no delay with this method. The only problem is that it needs some time to change them back to play drums/guitar with the keyboard.
@nok I completely disagree, the game just asks for a USB mic in theory it’s not like there is a guitar hero dedicated mic or some kind of encryption. therefore i think that what we are doing is completely legal.
Your registry method is great!! I’ll test it tomorrow and if it works we will call it the “nok method”
Hi, i have a BIGGGEST problem…..when i changed my default mic to Logitech USB Mic, start the game, choose the song it starts to load? and when just quit on my desktop =( [When i play guitar it doesn't quit!] Have ideas how to fix it?
@Fatal1TY
Hi
try changing you computer’s Mic configuration, the following settings work for me:
2 channels, 16bit 44100hz
good luck
PsMan
I have WinXp….a dont have mic conf =(((
hi
in step 5 i cant find the device manager
@avihu, The device manager is where it is supposed to be(R-click my computer, manage, device manager). If you don’t know the basic stuff, I suggest you reconsider going on with the steps. you can try the “honhon approach” if you have vista.
@Fatal1TY: I managed to get the same error as you on my laptop. Did you use the “honhon” method (mic renaming) or my method (screaming bee). I got the same error as you when I was testing the “nok” method.
@Nok, Did you actually play using the registry modification method? for me it worked (the vocals mode is on) but when the game starts it crashes to the desktop, I’ll work a little more on that
@PsMan, maybe cause at first i used the registry method, then change all back…..and when i used Screaming Bee method….dont know =(
@Fatal1TY are you using a laptop?
maybe someone will make a movie
Great Hack. I’m using Windows 7 and it works fine.
Anyone have any idea why you can’t play guitar/drums (on the keyboard) while you have the mic working (this was my objective of getting the mic working, really). If you use a legitimate mic, does it still stop you from using the keyboard?
@avihu ??!!
@Nick: Great! which method did you use (screming bee, Mic rename, or registry?) and about the keyboard play I think the real mic will cause the same limitation in the game, iI read that somewhere, if you want to play using the guitar and drums when you enable the Mic you will need to buy the GH guitar and drums, or you need to which us good luck to find another hack for this issue.
stay tuned.
someone make video that explain how to do this
I’m stuck at step 8. i don’t know how to set my mic as default recording device. Where can i do it. In the setup wizard, i like install the MorphVOX Junior again and in the installation it asks me if i make the program default recording device, you mean that? I don’t find the place, plz help me. I use SP3 Win XP
Ok, i maybe figured out how to set the default recording device. I go to Control Panel-Sound and Audio Devices and there i click Audio. There it is Default Device. I open the drop down menu, but no Logitech USB Mic in there, but it is in Device Mananger. I use Microphone that is not with USB jack.
Oh, at last, i got it. Here is what you need to do. In x86 file, there is no such line as “sbee_audio.SvcDesc=” Instead you need to change the line “ScreamingB.Name=” . At the end of that line type “Logitech USB Mic” and you have your mic in the selection. I also got to play a little, but the lagg is huge ( not the fps lagg) how to reprair that?
Thank you for your input Intz.
You can read the previoous comments concerning the delay. Also you can try the registry method, although I did not get it to work yet. the main Idea is to open regedit find all keys and values named by your default recording device’s name and rename them to “Logitech USB Mic”, if you dont know your way around registry don’t risk it.
Good luck
PsMan no….i use PC
There isn’t my mic name in the registry. When i search for Philips SBC MD150, it doesn’t found nothing. But when i search for Logitech USB Mic, it founds a lot of stuff. And also i can’t get donaut working either. When i choose Logitech USB Mic in there, then the microphone wont work. Also, can you recommend some programs like MorphVox that are not free.
@Intz
Why are looking for Logitech USB in you registry? look for your real recording device and rename it in both registry keys and values.
Mytheory is that if the screaming bee method work for you then then the registry method will also work
Yes, i searched for Philips SBC MD150, but it doesn’t find anything, so i can’t rename anything.
@Intz
You are looking for the wrong thing, do not look for the mic name, look for the recording device name, usually it is your sound card’s name (“High Definition Audio Device”) , or just the word “Microphone” it depends on your sound card driver
Ok, i changed a lot of things and non of them worked, the vocals didn’t work at all in the game. Hex edit is the best way, just change to the name of your default recording device, and you got it. You can play on on vocals though, but there is no delay and it’s easy.
@PsMan
Yes, it works fine for me with my regedit method.
I screamed my soul out this afternoon : )
@nok. your method is now official, Thank you! please read the second update in the post and tell me if you want to add anything
Thanks for adding me to the post. I hope some ppl will find my method useful. Imo no addittional information required for it.
I have Guitar hero world tour mic for x360 and it works great standalone, but as soon as I power up wireless guitar, MIC doesnt show up in the game, can anyone help with this issue?
PC of course
thanks
@Fanator
your case doesn’t make sense at all. What I know that once a GH Mic is connected you can no longer use the keyboard to play, but you do have the wireless guitar so you should be able play both vocals and guitar.
What do mean by “MIC doesn’t show up in the game” is the vocals mode disabled?? what is the error message? I will try to help even though I don’t have real mic nor the guitar.
Good luck
Hello to everybody. Before asking, I wanna thank for everything posted here… Well, my problem is, that I did all the steps (1-9) and I managed to run GH:WT with the mic. But when I chose a song, the game jumps to my desktop. I would be very pleased if somebody explain to me how can I do the REGEDIT method… I don’t know wich keys I have to rename. THANX AGAIN!!! (and sorry for my English)
@Laurencevanq
Hi! unfortunately, I don’t think that the regedit method can be made universal, the keys you must rename depends on your sound card driver. just get your recording device name and look it up in the registry.
Did you try the MIC rename method? it is easier.
Anyway the crashing problem has been discussed before but no solution has been found yet, check back again soon may be I can find a solution.
Good luck!!
@PsMan
Thanx. Even though, I don’t know how I can rename my mic on Win XP. But I’ll keep on trying with the other methods, if I solve something I’ll let ya all know… BYE!!
Hi,
Concerning the Crash when you start any song using vocal mode:
I had Vista x64 SP1, and I tried playing vocal mode on Guitar hero by renaming various microphones I had (Ranging from USB mics to Bluetooth mics to the standard analog mics)
The game would recognize the mic everytime, but as soon as you start a song, the game crashes. I searched EVERYwhere on the web for a solution, and you guys seem to have the most info about this (Although you dont have a solution yet).
Well, im glad to say that I just installed Windows 7 x64 and for some reason everything works fine now. So I dont know if it was just an OS issue or maybe a driver issue, but as long as it works now i’m happy.
Maybe you guys can figure it out.
I used the driver CD I got with my motherboard when I had Vista, but with Win7 I use the microsoft drivers(it was installed with windows).
Oh, and another thing…
Since GH looks for the device names to figure out which controllers you have, I was wondering if you guys can figure out if there might be a way to use Vocal and Guitar mode.
If someone with a real “Guitar Hero” guitar could be so kind as to post the device id/name, then we could try renaming a random HID device to that name. The game might recognize the “keyboard” controller, the Mic, and the renamed HID controller. Thus enabling two valid controllers in the game.
If this is possible, then we could also try renaming more HID devices to include Bass and drum in the game. A full band mode might be possible on the PC without any of the real controllers.
Hi Dotslash
Thank you for your valuable input.
I have been working for a while on a method to fake a guitar hero guitar. As a matter of fact it is not complicated. You will not a device ID for the game to believe that an input device is a GH guitar. Any game controller will enable Band mode, the problem is that the controller is not sending the correct button codes as a GH guitar to interact with the game.
Controllers has two types of input I think RAW and codes, regular game controllers use RAW codes that are interpreted by the driver.
If we would pass a regular game pad for GH guitar, we will need to figure out the GH guitar codes and modify the controller driver accordingly.
I have worked on this for I while, I’m kinda busy these days so I’ll get back to it when i have some free time. Any ideas are appreciated anyway.
Good luck
Hi. I’ve bought a license GH3:LoR(with the guitar-controller) about a 1.5 year ago. Since that time I’ve been using it to play the GH:Aerosmith and GH:WT. I don’t have that USB micropone, but with help of these methods I’m using my microphone.
So.. I can play in Bass, Guitar modes with my controller, vocal mode – simple mic, but I can’t use both these devices to play Head to Head mode. Why?
Hi. NeverMora.
Can you play band mode? Is it even possible to play head to head betwen a mic and a controller? it doesn’t seem fair, vocals mode is much easier.
Our problem is that you can’t even play sigle player mode using the keybaord once you activate the mic.
just try the band mode and tell me if it would work.
Yeah.. playing the band mode is possible.
Guys there is easyer way to work the whole delay thing in the game there is hmmm im not sure i have to check it but anyway there is option for the delay try it out it might work ;p
Hi
I dont think thats gonna work, that is to calibrate the hardware lag for older computer, it is not for Mics.
better dude make an copy of your file and poste someone, this will be more easy !
Hi
There is no file to make copies of, unless you mean the exe modification method, sorry, I’ll not be posting that here
Sorry my english for advance.
Hey man, thanks so much! it worked like a bloody charm here!
Thanks a lot!
But i have a question.
Is there anyway to make the game recognize the other instruments as well?
Like a put some generic ps2 guitar and make it work on Windows world tour game.
Thank in advance.
And thanks for the awesome Mic tip!
I just saw your commentary to Dotslash.
Good luck in trying figuring out the hardware of GHWT system…
If you need any help just ask on my email.
And if you get any progress i’ll check it out for sure!
Thanks
happy it worked for you, concerning the PS2 guitars, I think that there will be a lot of hardware work to do, and that is just not my thing, but If you can get things started may be I can help
Guys, if you want to try work on anything other than the vocals in Guitar hero world tour PC, please discuss it in the forums here http://forum.angrybyte.com/games/
Thx man it work btw how do i play Band mode?
Sorry dude, once you activate the Mic, you will be unable to use your keyboard as a controller, you will need the guitar or drum set controllers. sorry but the game just seems to be coded this way, if you have the mic you should have everything else
Hey !guys i just got a good news that pc can play BAND MODE!
Here the links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEWQ8y52nrU
but it freezes and hang on the ending parts on the song…..
faizhalf, You got me surprised there for a moment, but you are wrong dude, no one never said that you can’t play the band mode, If you had every GH gadget ever made like the guys in the video. We are saying here that you cant’ play the band mode with a regular mic and a keyboard.
and another good news Aspyr will released World Tour PC Patch
Here the link: http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=101334&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Proof from Aspyr!
we will see if this update will bring anything new to the vocals and band modes
Oooh! that was so easy! and i ve been searching for a usb mic everywhere and all i had to do was to rename my laptops mic.
i used that method:
”
-right click the speaker icon near the clock and click recording devices
-double click your default Mic
-rename it to Logitech USB Mic
-save everything and start the game
”
>using windows7 btw
THNX so much!
Guys i have a problem, my game starts and i heva the vocals enabled, but when i start the song no matter how much i shout or scream the comet (that dot thingy) wont move, i tried turning the mic volume up but nothing. PLS HEEELP !!!
.-= Radeon´s last blog ..cosplay-naruto.com a website with a unique gallery system on WordPress =-.
Hi radeon
What method are you using to enable the mic? My gut is telling me that your system’s default mic is not the pseudo Logitech USB mic. open the recoding devices window, get your mic and scream your lungs out, insure that the mic detecting the sound is the logitech.
Good luck
Thanks ! It works on Windows 7.

I have same problem and i’m using Windows 7 32 bit.
If you find solution, please post it!
Thanx in advance! ;o)
Great works 100%.thank you very much!
I’ve just figured out a way to make this work, as the methods the author explained didn’t work for me. I’m on XP x64 with a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic. This method doesn’t have any lag problems, no need to have any program running together with GHWT, neither any additional driver to be installed.
1- create a backup of your ‘GHWT.exe’;
2- download a software called ‘Hex Workshop’;
3- open ‘GHWT.exe’ with Hex Workshop;
4- press CTRL + F and choose in the ‘Type’ combobox the option ‘Text String’, and down in the ‘Options’ section choose ‘ASCII String’;
5- in the type form, search for ‘Logitech’ (without quotation marks) and press OK;
You’ll probably find the part of the file that has all the mic names. Now comes the tip. You can verify that you have only these mics that GHWT can accept:
Mad Catz USB microphone
AK5370
PDP USB Microphone
Headset (XBOX 360 For Windows)
Logitech USB Mic
6- you have to pick one that has *MORE* characters than your sound card input device name. Mine is ‘SB X-Fi Audio [BF00]‘, so I choose ‘Mad Catz USB microphone’ to begin.
7- then you have to put the cursor immediately before the first character (in my case, ‘M’), and start to type the name of your device. Notice that when you finish the typing will remain some characters of the old device (in my case, remains the characters ‘one’).
8- now select the remaining characters and press CTRL + INSERT (or right button in the selection and choose ‘Fill’) and press OK in the new dialog.
9- save and have fun.
You only have to do this once, or until you buy another sound card (i.e. change your mobo, hehehe).
@Fulalas
Hi
Actually, we have already covered this method @Torch brought it up, but I think is kinda illegal? cracking the game and all, I’m not sure.
but thanks for the detailed howto.
@PsMan, what Torch said corrupts the executable file, because you can’t remove any character of a binary file. That’s why nok, the guy after his post, told that he couldn’t open the game anymore. What I’ve explained just works.
BTW, I don’t think that this method is any different in legal terms than create any way to fool the game in order to play with a ordinary mic. As long as the game publisher receives money from our hands and we don’t make illegal copies of the game, I think it’s OK. No?
Hi.
I know the ins and outs of exe modification, you can do whatever as long you do not insert or delete a byte, you can only modify.
Anyway whether or not this is legal is a very long discussion. and this is not the place for it.
what we still need to do is to enable band mode.
you see, the mic automatically reserves the keyboard as the input device, leaving the second player without a controller.
Any USB game controller will enable band mode, but you will not be able to select a side as the game will not recognize any input from it.
what needs to be done is to mask a regular USB controller’s input as a GH guitar input.
another theory is to use another set of input keys on the same keyboard ( or other USB keyboards) as inputs for the second player.
if you feel like it, please move this discussion to the forums at http://forum.angrybyte.com
Hi, I’m with Windows 7 Ultimate, so i’ve renamed my mic to “Logitech USB Microphone” and it works, but when i play a song while it’s loading it gets out and says: Guitar Hero World Tour has stopped working windows checking for a solution. Can you help me? Thank you
Hi guys
And what about joining irregular headset to windows Vista PC, There rename it and than connect to windows XP PC?
I hav this problem. If i change on morph VOX default recorder to logitech USB Mic and then clcick OK, it will always change back!!! PLS HEEEEEEEELP!!!!
I hav headset C-media USB audio device
OK Mic is connected!!!!!!! Thanks to Fulalas!!!! But I have problem with long delay. I know its somwhere in forum but i cant find it. Please help with it.
@Kitabatake
Since you are on XP, try the registry method to rename your mic without passing by morphvox, you can also lower the delay from morph vox if you fail to get the registry method to work, but there will still be delays, read all the comments above, they will help.
Hi, i managed to get the vocal mode working on guitar hero. But there’s nothing to record my voice with, since the “Logitech usb mic” doesnt really exist, since its just a driver. And i have a logitech webcam with a microphone, but it doesnt seem to work.
