I finally got to trying the long awaited game RAGE, after installing the 3DVDs game and playing it for a few minutes, I found that the performance was very slow. Textures took a long time to render, and the overall FPS was very low (around 20 I would assume). This should not be the case with my Core i7, 6GB DDR3, and ATI 4890HD.
The game doesn’t come with much graphics options to play with, just a resolution, and anti aliasing control. Which did not give much of an improvement with I tried them. The ATI catalyst option also had low effect on the poor performance.
Luckily for us AMD was aware of the situation and they have released a special driver to give you a good performance boost specially for Rage.
You can find the AMD Catalyst™ – Rage Performance Driver here
This will work with your ATI VGA from the HD 4000 5000 and 6000 families.
It is a real pain to find a good driver for the old Samsung i730 CDMA phone that work under 64 bit systems. any way here is how to get it to work
1. download the driver.
2. go to your device manager and manually look for the inf file inside the downloaded driver.
3. that’s it
During the last decade, I got the chance to try many driver repairing tools, some of them were free, some were not. I never liked any of them though, some couldn’t correctly detect the hardware that is unrecognized by windows, some provided dead driver download links, and some were loaded with spywares are scarewares.
When I was working on a friends Acer laptop, trying to find almost all of it’s drivers that Windows curiously was unable to recognize any of them. Even the manufacturer was not quite sure what the hell they put in this model.
That is when I tried a software called Device doctor, I kinda liked it for the following reasons.
2. Was able to detect all the needed drivers.
3. Was able to provide driver updates for the installed drivers.
4. All drivers were hosted at the device doctor website.
5. No registration required !
6. There is even a portable version of the software, to be used without installing from a flash drive, if you were geeky enough for that.
I still haven’t got the chance to really check it’s capabilities, but so far, it’s looking good.
You can download Device Doctor here
Also you can get the Portable Device Doctor here
When I was installing the new Radeon driver v9.8 the installer kept crashing before the installation started on windows vista 64.
The solution is simple, just go here
and install the appropriate update for your system. This crash is related to some problems in the Visual C++ libraries and this fix will allow you to install this new version just fine.
Did you sense any improvements with the new CCC 9.8?

This is all great, but now in a time where AMD (ATI) cards are considered better than their equivalents in nVidia, I think it is time for AMD to stand up for the challenge and fix embarrassing bugs such as:
- 3D graphics corruption in many games with Adaptive anti-aliasing enabled.
- Games crash on minimize and resolution changes.
- funny looking effects.
- Buggy deinterlacing that actually make movies interlaced (scan-line effect)
- V-sinc does not know when to turn on or off
AMD (ATI) must work more with the developers and do more “Best played on Radeon” games. Also it is time to flood the market with DirectX 10.1 games, since no nVidia cards already supports it. and I’m not talking about crappy games such as Stormrise.
Radeon card are strong but I feel that this miss a Strong software support.
what do you think
This one gave me a really hard time to find, So I decided to upload it for you nice ppl to save you some time.
