Ark Survival -sm4 mode

I have been playing Ark Survival evolved for a few months now, but I’m not impressed with the performance that I’m getting from my PC when running it. I read about the Ark survival -sm4 mode where you set this startup paramter to force the game to run in DirectX10 mode.

First right click Ark survival game in Steam and select properties,

Ark survival -sm4

In the Menu, select Set launch parameters.

ask sruvival evolved sm4 mode

Set the launch parameter to -sm4.

Save everything and start ark survival with -sm4 mode. I noticed a slight degrade in the graphics quality, but a signification increase in the frame rate.

Some users have noticed a decrease in some lighting effects, like the light of a thrown torch. so if that bothers you, just remove the -sm4 mode from Ark survival and play normally.

Removing Rocksmith guitar noise

I started playing Rocksmith 2014 Edition shortly after i got my first  Squier by Fender BulletStrat w/Trem, Brown Sunburst
electric guitar, the game is amazing, you’ll learn to play your best songs all while enjoying a guitar hero like experience. The only problem that I faced was the constant static noise coming out of my guitar, even when no strings are being played. I came up with a few methods to help you overcome this problem.

1. Always calibrate:

when you start the game and notice the annoying static humming sound, go to the tuner and select the calibrate tool, after asking you to play all strings loudly, it will ask you to mute the strings, the trick is not to keep your palm on the strings, just silence them, and immediately remove your hand, it will help the game identify your noise level and reduce it.

2. Reduce the recording device volume:

it the noise is still too loud, minimize the game, and go to the recording devices (under the sound menu in the notifications area) find tyhe rocksmith input device and reduce its level, I used to set it around 25. remember to recalibrate after doing this.

3. The best solution that I came out with: use a UPS with a voltage regulation function:

I got myself an APC BR1000G Back-UPS Pro 1000 Uninterruptible Power Supply , although I got it for an unrelated reason, I noticed that the noise is almost gone when playing rocksmith! it makes sense, because actually the source of the noise is most likely the AC power line, the UPS regulates the voltage level and reduces the line’s white noise.

The UPS method also works without Rocksmith!, I used to have a lot of buzzing and humming even when playing directly on an amplifier, plugging the amplifier through the UPS significantly reduced the noise, even when overdrive is active. it actually worked better than my BEHRINGER NOISE REDUCER NR300
noise reducing pedal.

Portal 2 crashes to desktop – Fix it

Portal 2 Picture
Portal 2

This Bug causes Portal 2 to just disappear and return to the desktop. This bug is now fixed, all you need to do is to upgrade your game. Google Portal 2 update. and download the First update and install it Your Game should work fine now.

There is also a series of other updates (update 2,3,4,5) you may get these as well to upgrade to the latest version, but for me just the first fix stopped the game from crashing to desktop.

New Games protection systems DRM, why even bother.

We have been playing video games since 1958, the gaming industry is getting even bigger and bigger every day, faster platforms, better graphics, smarter gameplay and control systems. But yet, we still struggle with the same problem we faced in the beginning, how to protect a game against unauthorized copying and distribution.

Back in the days in 1986 one of the first computer viruses ever was created as an attempt to protect against unauthorized copying. As if that was not a disaster per-say, developers kept on experimenting with different protection methods each of which was compromised sooner or later.

Today, 24 years later, we are still living the same struggle, and just until recently we didn’t care, but we are starting to get mad as recent DRM (Digital rights Management) systems started inconveniencing rightful owners of games, by insisting on a permanent Internet connection to some unstable servers to play offline games?

DRM

Coming to think about it, why are they even still trying? It has been like 24 years people, and not a single game got away without being cracked ( Don’t count PS3 games, but it’s coming for them as PS3 is starting the smile after being tickled for so long).

See, I believe there are 4 kinds of gamers, lets call them, the Buyers, The Testers, the leeches , and the Cheaps.

No more Clicksor!

Hi

You may have noticed that during the last month I was trying to include some Clicksor in this blog, I got the idea to try them when I found out at the Google Adsense webinar that it is ok to include some ads from other providers as long as they do not confuse the user to be Google ads.

Anyway, Today I’m removing all clicksor ads from this website for the following reasons.

1. Very low income. I tried some of the most successful clicksor ad forms, Interstitial Ads ads, in-text ads, and pop-under ads. For every dollar I made on ad sense, I made around 5-10 cents in clicksor.

2. contextual ads are too stupid, I have never seen it coming up with something smart, OK it will highlight the word “Play Game”, but when you “mouseover” it a small pop up will come with the dumb suggestion “Learn all about Play Game!!”

3.Interstitial Ads do not work most of the time, I use opera, and I often browse my own blog, but only once I have seen the Interstitial Ad in action, it took over the entire screen, and ,,, and,, and thats it, the screen remained white until i clicked a small button on top of the page to close it.

4.Floating ads suck, they do! , first, only 2 ads seemed to appear to me, one about Ad Onion, an ad service, and the other about some stupid mail filter, don’t expect much change in the ad, according to the page contents.

So for now, I’ll stick with Ad sense from Google until further notice.

Have you tried Clicksor? did you like it?

Gamespot.com Game of the year

Game spot dot com decided on the best game of the year, the winner is a game that I didn’t know, it’s called  Demon’s souls. It looks really great, check it out here

But you know what sucked? Dragon Age:Origin won the PC game of year award! can you believe it? after all I said about it? I guess nobody  listens to me anymore 🙁

What about Borderlands, COD WM2, Or even RE5?

The gamer choice awards will be announced tomorrow I guess, we will see who will win this time.

Radeon Catalyst and display driver 9.6 NEW

ex_08apr_dmm_radeon4890_gameA new driver is released for almost all recent Radeon display adapters. The following improvements are announced with this new driver

  • Company of Heroes – performance improves up to 25% with HD 4600 series products and below as well as improvements of up to 10% on HD 4800 series
  • Crysis – performance improves up to 13% in multi-GPU configurations
  • Crysis Warhead – performance improves up to 11% in multi-GPU configurations
  • World in Conflict – performance improvements of up to 30% can be seen in settings
    that were previously CPU limited

Also, some crashes and problems with the CCC has been fixed.

This is all great, but now in a time where AMD (ATI) cards are considered better than their equivalents in nVidia, I think it is time for AMD to stand up for the challenge and fix embarrassing bugs such as:

  • 3D graphics corruption in many games with Adaptive anti-aliasing enabled.
  • Games crash on minimize and resolution changes.
  • funny looking effects.
  • Buggy deinterlacing that actually make movies interlaced (scan-line effect)
  • V-sinc does not know when to turn on or off
  • [ad#link5box]

AMD (ATI) must work more with the developers and do more “Best played on Radeon” games. Also it is time to flood the market with DirectX 10.1 games, since no nVidia cards already supports it. and I’m not talking about crappy games such as Stormrise.

Radeon card are strong but I feel that this miss a Strong software support.

what do you think
