MSWINSCK.OCX for 64 bit Windows 7 & Vista

MSWINSCK.OCX  is a file required by many old application in order to listen to a certain port or just allow. network connections. This OCX will not register as most of know, by putting in in the system32 folder and typing the command “regsvr32 MSWINSCK.OCX”. With newer 64 bit systems it is a bit tricky. Here is how to do it

1. download the file here

2. Copy it to c:\\windows\\syswow64

3. type the following “Run” command :   “regsvr32 c:\\windows\\syswow64\\MSWINSCK.OCX” and yes, you must type the full path to the file, not just the name.

4. That’s it it should work now.

Upgrading ASUS laptops to windows 7

Newer asus laptops (the ones sold under Vista) are a little tricky to upgrade to windows 7, they have a small hidden partition that handles the boot  and recovery processes.

Once you format your C: to install 7 you will lose some files related to the recovery application. The boot handler in the small hidden partition will try to check the recovery files because it assumes that your windows installation is corrupted, but some file are missing, and that will result in a big red ERROR written on the screen, it looks pretty much like this one.

to fix this do the following.

  • Insert your window 7 CD and chose to repair your windows installation.
  • Open the command prompt.
  • write “bootsect /nt60 c: /mbr”
  • restart

everything should work fine.

what you did was to rewrite the master boot records to load windows7 and ignore loading the recovery process

Fix Windows Vista black desktop on Startup

This problem causes windows to startup to a black screen, with only the “Documents” folder open, once you close it, the screen is all black, no start menu , no background, no icons.

The causes of this are not very clear to be but i suggest that it is related to some form of new virus or malware.

To correct this do the following:

– On the black desctop screen, hold Ctrl + Shift + Esc

-The tast Manager will appear, from the file menu, select run and write “explorer” without the quotations.

-Your computer will load the start menu and will work correctly.

Until now, we still haven’t fixed the problem, the next time you boot your computer , you will have to repeate the same procedure.

Recording any sound that is being played on your speakers windows 7

Hi everyone. Today we will learn how to record any music , radio, game sound, just anything that your computer can play and save it. This was easy back in days on windows XP. But now it has become a little tricky because the stereo mixing device is now disabled by default in windows 7 and Vista.

To enable it just right click the speaker icon near the clock, then click “recording device”. Then right click any blank space below your devices list and click “Show disabled devices”. Then enable the “Stereo mix” device and set it as the default. Now you can start recording.

This is a first, but  I tried to add a video description to this post. please check it out and tell me how you like it. should I have these video descriptions more often?

Playing Resident Evil 5 over LAN

A great feature of the new Resident evil is the Co-Op mode where you can allow another player to join your game other LAN or the intenet.

The problem is that the game does not allow you to select the network card to be used as a LAN card, it will just choose the default card even if it was a USB modem or so.

So if you have trouble finding you LAN game session. try pressing “Home” in the game menu, from the Live popup menu click settings then Network information. Make sure that the default LAN adapter is your actual LAN network card. If not, here is how to change it.

On Vista, open the “Network and sharing center”

From the left pane select “manage network connections”

press the “ALT key” on your keyboard. the top menus will appear

Select “advanced settings” from the menu “advanced”

Use the arrows to move your LAN card up in the list then save everything.

You should be able to find your LAN sessions now. if not you will have to disable\disconnect all adapters but your LAN adapter.

There has been a big fuzz about this game being racist, its true that this is one of the rare games that allows you only to shoot black people…. and dogs. but this is just a game right? you have shot thousands of white people in the previous versions of RE it would seem ok to shoot few infected black people? I think that just bringing up racism is racist? what do you think?

Resizing hard disk partitions in windows Vista

[ad#square] InWindows Vista, you will not be needing any third party application such as Partition Magic to resize/ split you hard disk partitions without losing any data.

To achieve the best results I recommend backing-up important data (you never know), moving any large files to an extra partition or flash disk, and finally run a defragmentation.
